Always have applied fragrances sparingly, but remembered performance of the old version of this, 2 small dabs of this would last most of a warm day, and it would clearly be recognizable on your shirt collar at the end of day. The experience of Romance is similar to the experience of this picture for me, and really gets me a bit nostalgic. I wouldn't use this in social settings or romantic evenings unless your company has a particular taste for stuff from this era.

It is not a distasteful cologne in any way, but in my humble opinion they just don't make it like they used to. Acqua di Selvi builds up from the previous Victor fragrance Silvestri (1948), adding healthy doses of pine to the kitchen herb mix that seems to be a staple among Mediterranean eau de colognes patterned after and expanded from Acqua di Parma Colonia (1916). This was my father's fragrance of choice, and it was added to my arsenal in high school in the early 90's. I am not familiar with the terms scent aficionados use, but the overall impression is this is an approximation or diluted example of the original. The cologne always got me a favorable response from women of all ages, and always made me happy to put on. This is not the "Victor" version (made in US), but really, just how much different/better can it be? The camphorous pine steeped in lemon that is its fanfare may be repellent to those accustomed to creamy-dreamy pseudo-tonka pralines, but I live for it.

A couple or three sprays in an office setting would give you a crisp, clean, and confident scent, that would last through most of the day. Acqua di Selva is much more balanced and less cold medicinal camphor than the Avon, but I can see the inspiration. A must-have for fans of old school or green perfumes, but really only for those who love oakmoss and vetiver. The thyme and basil is delectable, clinging on to the hair on my forearms and causing me to nuzzle into myself. Acqua di Silva is a classic Fougere perfume which, like no other, reproduces the scent of the forest, without smelling like a bath additive.

I will never stop wearing it and the only time I do wear it is when the temperature outside is 90 degrees or above.
