The band were one of the most successful ska bands of the 2 tone era, notching up several top forty singles in the British charts. Having co-released the first 2 tone ska single with the Specials, they were one of the founding acts of the movement. Though highly influential, the original lineup only remained together for a year, and even with replacement players the band only continued until breaking up in 1982.

EXCITING TOUR NEWS!! We are heading out to the West Coast of America and Canada later this year with our good friends The Beat feat. Ranking Roger The announcement comes during Coventry’s UK City of Culture 2021 year in which she has played a pivotal role – in the bid and the celebrations. In the last few years The Selecter celebrated their 40th Anniversary and returned to the Official UK Charts in April with a reissue of their debut album Too Much Pressure. We will be playing an extended, hit-rich set each night with some added live favourites and surprises. We will also be joined for a few songs by vocalist Rhoda Dakar who will also play a DJ Set to open the nights.

We are teaming up with The Beat in 2017, hitting the road together for a number of dates around the UK and Ireland. After our show at Shepherds Bush Empire sold out in record time, we have added a show at the iconic Roundhouse in Camden on Friday 6 October 2017. Well, she was 10 years older than all of us. And if Debbie Harry turns up, everybody looks like chopped liver, don’t they? I often look at the picture because I’ve got it in my toilet. We were all interested in one another, but I see the expressions on my and Poly’s faces and they’re decidedly different from the others’ expressions… We’re like: ‘What are we doing here? Where do we fit into all this?’ There were other photos taken, she says, where she and Poly weren’t included. In October 2017 the band released a new studio album Daylight it was greeted with critical acclaim. Daylight looked at the modern world with classic Selecter energy, wit and danceability.
